Mage Leveling

Hey, MikemanX here,

Are you here in search of a mage leveling guide?  Because if you are, I was in your shoes not too long ago, it’s so frustrating sifting through all the info on the web to find the best mage leveling guide so you don’t end up wasting your time with something sub-standard.

I spent a lot of my own time sifting through crappy builds, but after much searching I finally found one which worked out pretty well for me, I’ll be sharing that mage leveling spec with you below so you don’t have to drive yourself nuts looking yourself…

Now one of the first things that I found out was necessary for fast leveling was a mage leveling spec.  Here now is the best spec I’ve personally found for leveling (18/0/53):

Frost Mage Talents

Frostbite 3/3
Improved Frostbolt 5/5
Ice Floes 3/3
Ice Shards 3/3
Precision 1/3
Piercing Ice 3/3
Icy Veins 1/1
Arctic Reach 2/2
Frost Channeling 3/3
Shatter 3/3
Cold Snap 1/1
Cold As Ice 2/2
Ice Barrier 1/1
Arctic Winds 5/5
Empowered Frostbolt 2/2
Fingers Of Frost 2/2
Brain Freeze 3/3
Summon Water Elemental 1/1
Enduring Winter 3/3
Chilled To The Bone 5/5
Deep Freeze 1/1

Arcane Mage Talents

Arcane Subtlety 2/2
Arcane Focus 3/3
Arcane Concentration 5/5
Spell Impact 3/3
Student Of The Mind 2/3
Torment The Weak 3/3

Now it’s important to realize that you also need to know how to go about attacking enemies when using this build, therefore I’ve also researched and logged the spell rotations you’re going to need to employ at each level:

Levels 1-40

-Cast Frostbolt until the enemy comes within melee range
-Cast Cone of Cold when the enemy is in melee range
-Wand your enemy to death

Levels 41-60

-Cast Ice Barrier & Summon your Water Elemental then have him attack
-Cast Frostbolt until the enemy comes within melee range
-Cast Ice Nova when the enemy is in melee range
-Finish off with Frostbolt

Levels 61-80

-Same as above, except use Cone of Cold instead of Ice Nova and Finish with Ice Lance

Now once I PERSONALLY researched all this info, I went to work right away in leveling a mage.  I began leveling up easily enough, I made it all the way to level 15 without a hitch, but then it started to hit me…something was off with this…

I was leveling soo DAMN SLOW!

I couldn’t believe it!  This was supposed to be the best mage leveling spec, why was this happening?  So I went and talked to a friend and fellow guildie who loves power leveling and asked him what he used to level his mage.  He told me that if I want to level a mage fast, I can’t be messing around with this basic Noob info, that I needed to supplement this at least with a FULL mage leveling guide.  He told me he used the Team iDemise Leveling Guide and that I should look into that.  I took his word for it and decided to have a look…

So after looking into this thing which I half though to be just some long PDF book, I found out it was actually an in game add-on which runs inside of World of Warcraft.  What it does is it places a giant green arrow in front of your character which points you in the direction of where to pick up the next quest, where to go to complete the quest objective and when and where to turn it in.  By following the arrow you are automatically leveling up at the optimal speed.

You also see a dialogue box which has written instructions for you, so you might see:

Kill 5 Spore Harvesters in the Borean Tundra for “Vermin Extermination” at (22,23)
Obtain 5 Tempest Motes from Enraged Tempests for “Motes of the Enraged” at (42,24)
Turn in the “Vermin Extermination” Quest to Scout Tungok

Now when I implemented this application, I was able to see a significant change in my leveling speed, however like everything, it wasn’t without it’s problems:

CONS:

  • When I first got this they had an HTML guide which mirrored the in-game guide, I found this quite useful but they have since taken it down for some reason.
  • I wish they had more video tutorials showing how to do the hardest quests in the game, as well as more class specific leveling info.

Other than that, here’s where the guide did well…

PROS:

  • You get a Map Mod which runs on your map of the world and shows you visually where your next quest objectives are, this works well in combination with the written dialogue box.
  • Of course you also have the giant green arrow which dummy proofs everything and lets you level up fast almost without thinking.
  • You don’t have to worry about getting in trouble as this is not a hack or a cheat.
  • You get access to future updates to this software as well as a members only forum.
  • You can use this as not only a mage leveling guide but a guide for any other class.
  • You get a 60 day money back guarantee.

Final Words:

After putting this guide to work for several of my characters, I’ve found I’m able to level  significantly faster than I did without it.  If you’re still frustrated with your own leveling speed and looking for a boost, I’d suggest that you look into this.

As I mentioned, I’ve now got several characters I’ve used this guide with and in each case, I’ve been able to reach level 80 within 7-10 in-game days.  It’s allowed me to play the game as classes I otherwise wouldn’t have had the time for, which is cool..
